SUMMARY:Herstory: the Legal History of Chinese American Women
DESCRIPTION:On display in Hillman Library now until April 30\,
2026!\n\nhosted by the University of Pittsburgh Asian Studies Center\,
Center for Ethnic Research and University Library System\n\n\nExhibit
 Events:\n\nComing Soon!\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nHerstory 1 and Herstory 2\, part
of the traveling exhibition Herstory: The Legal History of Chinese American
Women\, curated by Dr. Chiu Chang (also known as Dr. Chang C. Chen\,
邱彰)\, documents the courageous legal battles fought by Chinese American
women—cases that challenged discriminatory immigration laws\, fought for
equal rights\, and helped reshape U.S. legal history as early as 1852.\n\n
\n\nDrawing from U.S. Supreme Court rulings\, state court decisions\, and
landmark lawsuits\, Herstory reveals how Chinese American women paved the
way for future generations to gain basic legal standing in the United
States. Their stories\, once overlooked\, are now recognized as essential
chapters in the broader fight for justice and equality in America.\n\n
\n\nCurator Dr. Chiu Chang is a former senator in Taiwan\, an accomplished
attorney\, and the author of more than 70 books. What began as a personal
endeavor to fill a void in the historical record has since gained
international acclaim\, with exhibitions held in cities around the
world.\n\n \n\nHerstory is more than a legal history. It is a testament to
resilience\, advocacy\, and the ongoing pursuit of justice.\n\n\n\n
