Join the University of Pittsburgh Library System (ULS) for an opportunity to hear directly from a student curator and view their Digital Interactive Wall exhibit alongside them! María Cecilia Llorens, Andrew W. Mellon Fellow at the Department of Hispanic Languages and Literatures at the University of Pittsburgh, has curated the exhibit Borges and Gómez de la Serna in Buenos Aires: Avant garde explorations about literature and tradition (1921-1951), highlighting the Jorge Luis Borges Manuscript Collection & the Ramón Gómez de la Serna Papers in ULS’s Archives and Special Collections.

Jorge Luis Borges and Ramón Gómez de la Serna met in Madrid in 1921, when both were participating in the avant garde journal Ultra. Gómez de la Serna became an influential figure in the intense literary scene of Buenos Aires. When the Spanish Civil War started, in 1936, Gómez de la Serna emigrated to Argentina, sharing with Borges a city in transformation, where topics of identity and tradition were at the core of transversal discussions.

This event is co-sponsored by the University of Pittsburgh Library System, the Borges Center, and the Department of Hispanic Languages and Literatures
