Start by diving into the fascinating world of the University of Pittsburgh Library System’s Archives & Special Collections and the Frick Fine Arts Library. You'll get an up-close look at historical handwriting, including manuscripts, rare books, and unique artists' books spanning the 13th to the 20th centuries. Discover how the physical form of text has changed over time, and how these changes influenced the way we read and write today.
Then pick up a pen yourself and learn the basics of foundational lettering from professional calligrapher and current president of the Pittsburgh Calligraphers’ Guild, Karen Roberts.
