Please join us for a listening party which will feature sound works created by Malik Washington. Malik Washington is a recipient of the August Wilson Archive Community Artist Scholar Award. Malik will present and discuss his recently created body of work which is based on August Wilson's play Gem of the Ocean, set in Pittsburgh circa 1904. City of Bones / Gem of the Confluence is a mixtape and installation that explores Wilson's artistic life and theatre through the rich history of Black music in Pittsburgh, collaging archival audio and play dialogue with the sounds of artists such as Mary Lou Williams, Ahmad Jamal, Romare Bearden, and more. This event will feature a discussion about Malik's work and research as well as an opportunity for attendees to listen to the sound works themselves. Come check out this one of a kind sound experience! This event is FREE and open to the public.
