Network analysis is a common research method in many disciplines, used to study social or historical networks as well as the spread of disease, complex species interaction, logistics networks, and more. This workshop shares strategies and resources for arts and humanities scholars who want to explore relationships in their research data. Whether you study literature, history, art, or another humanistic area of inquiry - join us to learn more about how you might create, visualize, and analyze networks.

To illustrate some best practices for creating historical social networks, we will discuss an example network drawn from the research of English PhD candidate and Digital Scholarship Services GSA Yujin Jang, who is studying the social connections of the 17th century English philosopher and poet, Margaret Cavendish. We will then explore this example network using Gephi, a free and open-source tool for network analysis and visualization.

No prior experience with network data or analysis is needed! Can't make it to this workshop? You can always contact us with your questions about this and other digital scholarship topics.
