Do you screenshot or bookmark websites that you want to save?  Many of us have had the experience of attempting to access a website only to find that links are broken, content or display have changed radically, or the site has disappeared entirely. Disappearing information can have global repercussions as well as a personal impact on us as individuals. It can also impact our research, especially when it comes to citing and referencing online sources. Creating web archives is one way of preserving web-based data and other content in a stable and reliable format.

Webrecorder is a free tool that allows users to capture dynamic online content for future access – including audio and video materials. In this workshop, we will discuss what web archives are and consider the reasons why we might create them. We'll use Webrecorder to create our own web archives and explore the uses and features of this particular tool. Please bring your laptop, as we will also download Webrecorder Player to learn how to access our web archives offline.
