This workshop is designed for graduate students and early career scholars who are interested in learning more about the copyright issues they may encounter in their research and publishing. The workshop will cover:
- The basics of U.S. copyright law;
- Using third-party works in your writing, including using public domain and openly licensed works, relying on fair use, and securing permission;
- Making your scholarship available and accessible online; and
- Considerations when signing a publication contract.

Location: This is a hybrid workshop; you are welcome to attend in-person at Hillman Library or online via Zoom. The in-person portion of the event will take place in Hillman Library's Digital Scholarship Lab (room G30), located just past the main service desk on the ground floor of the library. Look for the glass double-doors after entering through the ground floor atrium entrance; if you enter on the first floor, take the elevator down to the ground floor and turn right out of the elevator.
Software: This workshop does not require any specialized software.
