Art + Archives: A Student Exhibition Open House
Event box
Join us for a casual open house to celebrate Art + Archives, a student exhibition showcasing the work of students in Studio Arts 1800. Inspired by the rich textual resources of the University of Pittsburgh Library System's ULS Digital Collections, these artists have transformed archival materials into innovative zines (short for self-published, reproducible magazines). Students also leveraged print techniques learned in the Text & conText Lab, a collaboration between the Center for Creativity and the ULS. The exhibition highlights the power of text as both language and visual form, inviting viewers to reconsider the history and potential of archival and rare materials.
Meet the Artists! Student creators will be present to discuss their work and share their creative process.
About the Course:
Art + Archives (SA 1800) is a studio-research course, taught by Professor Sean Morrissey, that encourages students to utilize archival research to generate and inform studio projects. Students examine institutional, independent, and personal archives to generate these projects and build on previously learned studio art skills along with new methods in artistic publishing, collage, design, letterpress, and printed ephemera.
